[Visual Novel] Jisei

Title: Jisei
Creator: Sakevisual
Release Date: 06.04.10
Genre: Supernatural Mystery
Other information: Full voiced (Minus Protag)! Can be purchased for $15

Summary: You play as ???, the unnamed protaganist, who wakes up in a coffeeshop. It turns out that he has the ability to virtually “experience” the death of a corpse. However, turns out that when he’s just heading towards the bathroom of the coffee shop, he spots a dead woman and gets accused for murder. Now it is up to this unnamed boy to solve the mystery…

Review: So what is the main gimmick just GRABBING at me?

This being all full voiced. And not just that, but pretty good voice actors for them all! I’m actually pretty disappointed though that our unnamed protag did not get a voice though.

Now this game isn’t like Re:Alistar, and does not contain CGs.

Overall in a quick rundown though – I’m pretty sorta disappointed to be honest.

I’ll go through the ups though~

Voice acting total plus, and the art is really nice as well. Music was really well fitting for this game, and they even had an OP video with it’s own song. But seriously xD I really loved all the voice actors here, really fitting for their characters. Although I wasn’t too sure on maybe one of them…?

Interaction questioning was really well done and elaborate as well~

But…I have to say there were more downs for me.

It’s probably just me, but the mystery was too easy for me to figure out all through one playthrough. I did go back to see what else would happen, but really too predictable.

I felt also not as up to the writing in the story? Nothing was grammatically/sounding weird, but I wasn’t so into this at all. It’s nothing to do with the genre though. It might be simply because I felt there wasn’t much grasp on this story since there’s just so many things we don’t know about our protag and the real point of this murder (as in relating to our protag). This probably just means that’s why there’s going to be another game/installments to it to explain this – but…honestly I’m not really even entirely that curious.

Also the gameplay, is simply really too short? It’s around the same game time as Re:Alistar I believe – but Re:Alistar kept me a LOOONG time to play compared to Jisei. I also have to say that although the price is entirely understandable, since it’s full voiced, and they are using their free time for this – there are a lot more cheaper games out there with longer gameplay, but I suppose if price isn’t an issue for you then it’s alright.

To be entirely honest in my review, I have to say that I’d rather have paid the $15 for Re:Alistar instead of the full-voiced Jisei. And I do have a Re:Alistar bias most likely, but this game just has me pretty ;;;

Gameplay:

Pretty simple, you get to talk and question people, while also checking around rooms.

Music: Perfect and eerie, just right for this game pretty much.

Conclusion:

If you’re looking for a long game, not able to shell out the money, want something really unpredictable, and hard – I’d honestly go back to their Re:Alistar. There’s also other doujin english games that are more considerably better then Jisei honestly. I sort of felt I was more amused with The Stolen Diamond Ring also, although they’re pretty different.

However it’s all a matter of taste, and…actually…

For the other installment, I have to admit though…even though I wasn’t at all really impressed with this game, besides the voice acting, I’m debating on getting it since I do want to sort of know what’s the whole thing behind this protag.

Honestly I think maybe they’re better at stories like Ripples, Re:Alistar, though and still like Sakevisual honestly but just not so much feeling it with this game.

I have to say really their VAs and music was what got me in this game bottom line~

Thanks for reviewing this! I was wondering whether or not to get it, since I wasn’t sure if I’d like it… seiyuu isn’t a big draw for me, and I was wondering if the story would be good… I guess I’ll have to wait and see for more reviews before making up my mind :)

Yeah it really isn’t a big draw honeslty for me too, but it was a nice bonus? ;; I was just mostly dissapointed/had too high expectations for it.

Sakevisual has admitted actually that it was too short, but it was kind of a test for their first paid game and the series. Apparently, the next game will be at for around the same price at 3x the length, plus CGs… So I think you should give the next one a try. But I did agree with everything you said – though the mystery grabbed me more than you.

I kind of rationalized it as paying for Re:Alistair & Ripples with this. Support the developer and all.

Oh, did you hear? Sakevisual is working on TWO free otome games, the first one Oneiro supposedly to be released before the end of this year. Sooo excited!!! I hope it’s as good as Re:Alistair. And Flower Shop Girl’s Side is due around that time too… All these girl-friendly English VNs (I count Jisei as part of that too, actually) are making me so excited!!

Oooh I was so curious as to if I wanted this game or not either, because the mystery really got me curious, but I think the only part of it that I’m interested in is the whole mystery part… and supporting the developer too, by buying it. :P But this review definitely helped me decide whether or not I wanted it! :D
